Britain Tightens Investment Screening for Water and Tech
Britain will add water firms and semiconductors to mandatory investment screening. These updated rules aim to protect against evolving national security risks.
The United Kingdom is set to tighten its national security investment screening regime, with a specific focus on the water and advanced semiconductor sectors. The government announced on Thursday that these refinements are necessary to ensure the existing framework continues to protect the nation against evolving security threats.
Under the proposed reforms, the government will shift its approach to artificial intelligence. While off-the-shelf AI systems will be removed from mandatory screening requirements, the focus will intensify on companies that are actively developing or modifying advanced AI technologies.
