Uganda Central Bank maintains key lending rate at 9.75 percent
The Bank of Uganda kept its benchmark interest rate steady today to support economic growth. Officials noted that inflation remains below the 5% target.
The Bank of Uganda announced on February 9, 2026, that it has decided to keep its key lending rate, known as the Central Bank Rate, at 9.75 percent. This policy stance is intended to support economic activity while ensuring that inflation stabilises around the regulator's target. The decision maintains monetary conditions unchanged across UG, where the central bank is focused on long-term price stability.
The move comes as year-on-year inflation in the country rose slightly to 3.2 percent in January, compared to 3.1 percent in December. Despite this minor uptick, the monetary authority stated that the current settings remain appropriate to steer inflation toward its 5 percent core target. The benchmark rate has now been held at 9.75 percent since October 2024, providing a period of stability for the national economy.
