Investors in the United States significantly increased their exposure to equity funds during the week ending April 8. This surge in sentiment was driven by growing optimism surrounding a potential two-week ceasefire in the Middle East, which market participants hope will lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Such a development is expected to stabilize global energy flows, impacting commodities like Brent Crude Oil, West Texas Oil, and Natural Gas.

According to LSEG Lipper data, net purchases of equity funds reached $9.76 billion, marking an approximately 80% increase from the $5.42 billion recorded in the previous week. The shift in market mood followed news that Israel sought discussions with Lebanon on Thursday. These developments come ahead of scheduled peace negotiations between Washington and Iran on Saturday, fueling expectations for a broader de-escalation in the region.

Sector-specific funds also saw a turnaround, attracting $2.84 billion in total. This represented the first weekly net inflow for these funds in three weeks. Leading the gains were technology, industrial, and utility sector funds, which secured net inflows of $2.43 billion, $994 million, and $494 million, respectively.

The fixed-income market mirrored this positive trend, with bond funds drawing $9.6 billion in inflows. This movement effectively reversed the $10.14 billion in outflows observed during the prior week. Short-to-intermediate government and Treasury funds were particularly popular, gaining $7.28 billion compared to just $366 million in net purchases a week earlier. Additionally, investors directed $866 million into municipal debt funds and $709 million into inflation-protected funds.

Money market funds continued to attract capital for a second consecutive week, receiving a gross inflow of $9.7 billion as investors maintained a balanced approach to liquidity amid the evolving geopolitical landscape.
