ET signed a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation on February 17, 2026, during an official visit by President Tayyip Erdogan to Addis Ababa. The agreement was concluded at a ceremony following talks between President Erdogan and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, marking the Turkish leader's first visit to the country in 11 years. This memorandum formalizes a deeper bilateral energy cooperation between the two nations, focusing on establishing a strategic roadmap for the sector.
The accord establishes a framework for joint production and projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Furthermore, the agreement specifies cooperation in the production and installation of hydroelectric power plant equipment and electric turbines. These initiatives are intended to serve as a roadmap for sector-level development, facilitating technical exchange and infrastructure projects between the participating countries.
