Tunisian Journalists Protest Arrest of Editor
Tunisian journalists and activists protested on Tuesday demanding the release of detained investigative editor Mohamed Yousfi. Critics say his arrest on money laundering charges is part of a broader government crackdown on independent media.
Tunisian journalists protested outside a Tunis court on Tuesday morning to demand the release of editor Mohamed Yousfi. The demonstration follows Yousfi's arrest last Friday on money laundering charges criticized as politically motivated. The case highlights mounting pressure on independent media under Tunisia President Kais Saied.
Protesters and activists gathered as a judge questioned Yousfi, editor-in-chief of the investigative news site Al-Qatiba. Rights groups warn the legal action aims to suppress critical reporting. SNJT head Zied Dabbar said journalists face imprisonment or exile for challenging authorities.
