TSX posts biggest daily gain in a month on earnings
The S&P/TSX composite index rose 1.9 percent as strong earnings outweighed geopolitical concerns. Industrials and technology led the broad-based advance.
Canada's S&P/TSX composite index rose 1.9% to 33,964.33 on late evening April 30, its largest single-day advance since late March. The index gained 3.65% in April, recovering losses from the previous month as corporate earnings surpassed investor expectations. Resilient corporate profits are allowing Canadian equities to absorb geopolitical volatility and higher-than-forecast domestic economic growth.
### Earnings Drive Cyclical Recovery Industrials led the rally with a 2.4% increase. BOMBARDIER INC-A shares jumped 20.6% after the jet manufacturer reported first-quarter profits that exceeded Wall Street estimates. Technology and financials followed, rising 2.2% and 2.1% respectively.
