Trump threatens to block Detroit Windsor bridge opening over trade disputes with Canada

President Trump threatened Monday to block the new Detroit-Windsor bridge until Canada makes trade concessions. He is seeking partial ownership of the asset.

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he intends to bar the opening of the nearly completed $4.6 billion Gordie Howe International Bridge and has demanded immediate negotiations with Canada CACA. The threat targets a major cross-border freight link between Detroit and Windsor in the United States USUS that is reported to reduce crossing times by approximately 20 minutes and generate roughly $2.3 billion in cost savings for truckers over the next 30 years. This development follows the U.S. Department of Homeland Security designating the bridge as an official port of entry on January 30.
