Trans Mountain seeks bids for expanded pipeline capacity
Trans Mountain opened bidding for long-term contracts today. The company aims to boost pipeline capacity to 1.19 million barrels per day by the end of 2028.
Trans Mountain has initiated a formal bidding process to secure incremental firm transportation contracts for its pipeline system. This process, known as an Open Season, is designed to measure commercial interest in potential capacity expansion projects. The bidding window is scheduled to run from April 7 through June 2.
The pipeline, which is owned by the government of Canada, transports crude oil from Edmonton, Alberta, to the west coast of British Columbia. This route allows for energy exports to overseas markets, including China. The company expects the Open Season to result in 80% to 90% of its 890,000 barrels per day (bpd) system being placed under firm contracts.
