Japan saw Tokyo's core CPI rise 1.5% in April, the slowest growth since March 2022 as government subsidies offset rising raw material costs. This result fell below the 1.8% market forecast and remains under the central bank's 2% target for three months. Investors are tracking whether a weak yen and energy shocks will force the Bank of Japan to hike rates.
Tokyo core inflation, which excludes fresh food, slowed from a 1.7% gain in March. Energy costs fell 4.6% year-on-year in April after a 7.5% drop the previous month.
