Thyssenkrupp Calls for EU Protections on Special Steel
Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe welcomed an EU probe into grain-oriented electrical steel imports. The firm seeks swift action to protect jobs and local expertise.
The steel division of THYSSENKRUPP AG is calling on the European Commission to intervene and protect the domestic electrical steel sector from an influx of low-cost Asian imports. Based in Germany, the subsidiary welcomed the launch of a European Union safeguard investigation into grain-oriented electrical steel, which serves as a fundamental component for power grid infrastructure.
Marie Jaroni, the unit's lead, characterized the investigation as a vital first step in addressing market imbalances. Although the EU is moving toward reducing tariff-free steel import quotas and implementing a 50% duty on excess shipments, these measures do not currently apply to the specific electrical steel categories under pressure.
