Spain matches regularized migrants with formal jobs
The Spanish government is introducing a plan to connect undocumented workers with formal employment in key sectors like construction and tourism. Officials aim to integrate over 500,000 applicants into the legal workforce to sustain the national welfare state and address labor shortages.
Spain is launching a job-matching program to integrate roughly 500,000 undocumented workers into the formal economy to drive growth. The initiative follows a January announcement aimed at expanding the workforce as the national population ages. The move is expected to help the economy continue outperforming European peers through increased social security contributions.
### Solving the Labor Shortage Through Regularization The program received 549,596 applications in its first month, according to government lawyers in a Supreme Court hearing on Friday. This demand slightly exceeded initial expectations. Spain has already granted 91,505 temporary work permits to applicants.
