South Carolina Republican senators rejected a redistricting bid on Tuesday, falling two votes short of the two-thirds majority required to extend the session. The vote blocked an effort backed by Trump to eliminate the only Democratic congressional district in South Carolina. The decision preserves Representative Jim Clyburn's seat ahead of the November midterm elections, maintaining a key Democratic foothold in the state.
