South African Business Confidence Eases in January but Remains Near Historical Highs

South Africa's business confidence index dipped to 131.4 in January amid manufacturing weakness. However, sentiment remains strong ahead of the national budget.

The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported that the Business Confidence Index in South Africa ZAZA fell to 131.4 in January from 133.2 in December. This modest monthly decline was driven by weakness in the manufacturing sector, merchandise exports and vehicle sales. Despite the dip, the chamber noted that the index remains at historically high levels following a significant improvement throughout the previous year.
