South Africa annual consumer inflation edged up to 4.4 percent in August compared to 4.3 percent the previous month. Economists had expected a slightly higher rate of 4.5 percent. On a monthly basis, headline inflation remained unchanged.

South Africa's headline inflation ticked up to 4.4% year on year in August, rising from 4.3% in July. The print came in below the 4.5% consensus forecast from economists polled by Reuters. On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged after posting a 0.2% increase in July.
