Singapore launches plan for regional gold trading hub
Singapore regulators and banks are launching a plan to build a regional gold trading hub. The initiative focuses on enhancing clearing and vaulting services.
Singapore has unveiled a strategic roadmap to transform the city-state into a premier gold trading hub for Asia. The plan involves a coordinated effort between regulators and industry stakeholders to strengthen the region's trading, clearing, and storage infrastructure. This initiative positions the nation to capture a larger share of bullion flows, competing with other financial centers like Hong Kong, which has also been expanding its gold market links with mainland China.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Singapore Bullion Market Association (SBMA) have identified four primary pillars for development. These focus areas include broadening gold-related capital market products and establishing a trusted clearing and settlement system. Furthermore, the strategy aims to enhance vaulting and logistics standards while exploring specialized vaulting services for foreign central banks and sovereign wealth funds.
