Senegal and IMF Expected to Reach Agreement
Senegal and the International Monetary Fund are expected to reach positive conclusions following constructive mission talks aimed at replacing a suspended loan program. Discussions follow financial transparency challenges and recent downgrades.
Senegal and the International Monetary Fund expect positive developments following constructive discussions on Tuesday afternoon. The talks follow an IMF mission launched on August 19 to replace an $1.8B programme suspended in 2024. Senegal must stabilize its finances after disclosing more than $11B in hidden debt.
The current mission addresses fallout from undisclosed debt discovered under President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's administration. Talks have faced political friction, including opposition from National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko over required economic reforms.
