Safran remains cautious about increasing engine supply for Airbus amid Pratt and Whitney dispute

Safran CEO Olivier Andries says the firm will prioritize current orders as Airbus seeks more engines. The planemaker faces supply issues with Pratt and Whitney.

Insights:
Airbus SE is currently locked in a stand-off with Pratt & Whitney over engine supplies, a dispute that has prompted the aircraft manufacturer to request additional units from rival supplier CFM. This development comes as Airbus lacks a confirmed supply deal with Pratt & Whitney, a unit of RTX Corporation , for the 2026–2027 period. The situation, which remains under discussion, is compounded by reports of late engine deliveries that threaten the planned A320neo-family production ramp.
During comments made in Singapore SGSG, Olivier Andries, the CEO of Safran S.A. , indicated that CFM will prioritise its existing supply commitments. CFM is a joint venture between Safran and GE Aerospace . Andries noted that while CFM has forecasted a 15% increase in LEAP engine deliveries, this projection does not assume the company will take extra market share to fill the gap left by its competitor’s supply issues.
