Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Power Supply Restored
Management at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility restored the Ferrosplavnaya-1 power line following a temporary ceasefire for repairs. While the plant currently generates no electricity, it requires external power to maintain cooling systems for nuclear fuel.
Russia-installed management restored the Ferrosplavnaya-1 power line at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant on Saturday following a temporary ceasefire. The restoration followed a Friday ceasefire brokered by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) specifically to allow for these repairs. It is the sixth negotiated repair window for the facility since late last year.
Plant management confirmed via Telegram that all systems and equipment are now operating normally. Consistent external power is required to cool nuclear fuel and prevent a meltdown at Europe's largest plant. The facility, located in Ukraine, has six reactors but currently generates no electricity.
