Russia and Uzbekistan Start Nuclear Power Plant Project
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the construction of a new nuclear facility in the Jizzakh Region. The plant will use Rosatom technology and is expected to provide 15% of the country's electricity.
Russia and Uzbekistan began construction of a nuclear power plant on Thursday to meet 15% of Uzbekistan's power demand. The facility is the first of its kind in post-Soviet Central Asia. The project follows a recent agreement with Kazakhstan as Russia competes for influence against China and the United States.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev oversaw the start of construction via video link from St. Petersburg on Thursday. The Kremlin announced the ceremony took place during talks held on the sidelines of an annual economic forum.
