Repsol Increases Payouts and Reduces Capital Spending
Repsol will return up to 40 percent of cash flow to shareholders through 2028 while cutting investments. The firm expects to spend under 9 billion euros.
The energy major Repsol, S.A., headquartered in Spain, has announced a revised strategic plan that prioritizes shareholder returns over aggressive capital expansion. On Tuesday, the company pledged to distribute between 30% and 40% of its operating cash flow to investors through 2028. This capital return strategy, which includes both dividends and share buybacks, marks an increase from the previous target range of 25% to 35%. This shift in financial policy comes as the group prepares to scale back its investment activities. Repsol anticipates net investments of between 7.5 billion and 9 billion euros through 2028, a significant reduction from the 16 billion to 19 billion euro range projected in its previous multi-year cycle. The move reflects a transition toward capital discipline following years of substantial spending on major projects.
