Dubai Gold Flows Restart as Some Flights Resume Service
Dubai gold flows resumed this week as some flights returned to service. Traffic remains limited at 37 percent of normal levels while costs stay elevated.
The partial restoration of flight services from Dubai has allowed physical gold shipments to resume through the United Arab Emirates, providing some relief to a global trading hub that had been largely paralyzed. Deliveries were interrupted following the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, a conflict that led to the widespread cancellation of passenger flights across the Middle East.
As a primary supplier for Switzerland, Hong Kong, and India, the disruption in Dubai’s logistics network had global implications. Gold is typically transported via passenger aircraft due to its high value-to-weight ratio, which necessitates specific security and insurance protocols. While some traffic has returned, industry sources note that the flow of bullion remains significantly below normal levels.
