Pakistan oil tanker passes through Strait of Hormuz
The tanker Karachi passed through the Strait of Hormuz after loading crude in Abu Dhabi. Islamabad is using diplomatic ties to secure vital energy imports.
Ship-tracking data indicates that an oil tanker bound for Pakistan successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend. This transit suggests that some nations are able to negotiate safe passage for their vessels despite the regional conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Since the outbreak of hostilities more than two weeks ago, several attacks in the Gulf have effectively closed the strait, which serves as a critical conduit for one-fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas. While the disruption has driven up global energy prices, some vessels continue to transit the chokepoint. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted on Monday that officials believe tankers from India and China have also passed through the area.
