OpenAI has maintained that these advertisements are kept separate from the AI's generated answers and do not impact the quality of the outputs. The company also clarified that user conversations are not shared with marketing partners.

Currently, about 85% of the user base is eligible to see advertisements, though fewer than 20% are shown ads on a daily basis. This gap suggests a significant opportunity for OpenAI to scale its monetization efforts within its existing audience.

To facilitate further growth, OpenAI plans to launch self-serve advertising tools in April. The company also recently hired David Dugan, a former advertising executive from Meta Platforms, Inc., to lead its global advertising solutions division.
