NTSB Calls FAA Safety Responses Unacceptable
The NTSB criticized the FAA for failing to adopt key safety recommendations after a deadly 2025 midair collision. Officials urged Congress to pass aviation safety reform legislation.
The United States National Transportation Safety Board said federal regulators rejected 11 of 33 post-crash safety recommendations following a collision that killed 67 people. The January 2025 disaster involved an AMERICAN AIRLINES GROUP INC regional jet and an Army helicopter near a major Washington facility. The rebuffed proposals include mandatory cockpit collision-avoidance technology that officials say could have prevented the tragedy.
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said the unadopted ADS-B In system could have warned the passenger jet pilot 59 seconds before impact.
