Appeals court rejects Trump California ballot bid
A federal appeals court rejected an emergency request by the Trump administration to set aside over twenty thousand California ballots cast by voters flagged as potential noncitizens. The court ruled the administration moved prematurely before the district court could act.
A federal appeals court on Monday rejected an emergency bid by the United States administration to force election officials to set aside more than 20,000 ballots in Los Angeles County.
The 2-1 ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit leaves current ballot-handling procedures in place eight days before Election Day. The court declined to address the underlying dispute, ruling instead that the Justice Department sought emergency intervention prematurely without giving the district court adequate time to act.
