Nigeria Seeks Gulf Energy Investment to Diversify Supply
Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar urges Gulf states to invest in Nigeria to diversify supply. Nigeria has raised output to 1.7 million barrels per day recently.
Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar of Nigeria has urged Gulf oil and gas producers to view the nation as a strategic partner rather than a competitor to help stabilize global energy supplies. In an interview with Reuters, Tuggar explained that Nigeria's untapped energy reserves offer a critical alternative for diversification, especially as the conflict involving Iran disrupts vital shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. The disruption in the Middle East, which handles nearly a fifth of the world's oil supply, has led to shipment halts and price volatility. Tuggar argued that investing in West African infrastructure would benefit Gulf states by providing a hedge against regional instability.
It's in line with what we've always advocated – that countries which might otherwise consider us competitors should partner with us and invest so they can diversify their market share, working with us.
