NY Fed says supply chain pressures rose to 0.68 in March
The New York Fed index rose to 0.68 in March from 0.54 in February. This marks the highest level since early 2023 as Middle East disruptions impact trade.
Supply chain pressures intensified in March, climbing to their highest levels since the beginning of 2023, according to the latest data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The Global Supply Chain Pressure Index rose to 0.68, up from a reading of 0.54 in February.
The index uses a baseline of zero to represent normal market conditions, with positive figures signaling increased strain on global logistics. Although the New York Fed did not provide a specific breakdown for the March increase, the rise is widely attributed to disruptions stemming from conflict in the Middle East. Specifically, tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran have impacted shipping and transport routes.
