NY Activists Push for Data Center Review
New York environmental activists are calling for a slower and broader review process regarding the construction of new large data centers. Officials recently held a technical conference to discuss grid connections and potential environmental impacts across the state.

New York state officials and industry experts met in Albany on Wednesday morning to debate rules for large data centers as environmental activists rallied outside to demand stricter reviews. The temporary moratorium enacted in July halts state environmental permits for facilities using 50 or more megawatts of power for up to a year. State data shows nearly 14 gigawatts of large electric load requests are currently pending in the energy grid interconnection queue.
