Firm Proposes Restarting Australian Manganese Smelter

Natrium Redox Technologies offered to restart Australia's only manganese smelter in Tasmania. The plan aims to supply battery markets and secure over two hundred jobs.

Natrium Redox Technologies proposed acquiring and restarting Australia's sole manganese smelter on Monday morning, seeking $10.75M in joint government funding. The bid aims to supply critical battery minerals and preserve over 200 jobs following the facility's liquidation.

The proposal follows EY Parthenon's announcement last month that the Liberty Bell Bay Smelter would close after a planned sale collapsed. The site entered voluntary administration in March after suspending operations mid-last year.
