Nashville Retailer Levys Clothiers to Close

Nashville landmark Levys Clothiers will close permanently by the end of 2026 after 171 years. Owners David and Ellen Levy cited health issues and family travel as the main reasons for shutting down.

Ellen and David Levy of Levy's Clothier for Men & Women at 3900 Hillsboro Pike in Nashville, Tenn., Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The couple are closing their store – established in 1855 by David’s great-great-grandfather Zadoc Levy – sometime at the end of this year.

Levys Clothiers will permanently close its flagship store in late December 2026 after 171 years of operation in Nashville, fifth-generation owners David and Ellen Levy announced. The closure marks the end of one of the oldest continuously operating family-owned department stores in the United States. David Levy cited ongoing health concerns and a desire to spend more time with family as the primary reasons for shuttering the business rather than financial distress.
