Morocco Pauses Tomato Exports to Africa
Morocco temporarily halted tomato exports to African markets to stabilize domestic supplies and lower rising local prices. Higher production costs and lower yields in Souss Massa drove the domestic price surge. European shipments remain exempt.
Morocco suspended tomato exports to African markets on Thursday afternoon to secure domestic food supplies and ease surging local prices. The temporary halt targets regional shipments following reduced crop yields in the country's main farming zones.
The agricultural export curbs come as authorities prioritize domestic food sovereignty amid higher production costs. Total agricultural shipments rose 4.3% year-on-year to 33.1 billion dirhams ($3.4 billion) in the first nine months of the year, government figures show.
