MPS challenges CEO reappointment bid with ECB complaint
MPS filed a complaint with the ECB over a board slate aiming to keep CEO Luigi Lovaglio. The move follows a board vote to strip the CEO of his current powers.
Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) has officially lodged a complaint with banking and market supervisors regarding a proposed list of board candidates designed to maintain Luigi Lovaglio as Chief Executive Officer. This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing power struggle within the leadership of the prominent financial institution. The legal challenge follows a contentious board meeting on Wednesday, during which directors in Italy successfully stripped Lovaglio of his executive authorities but were unable to finalize his departure from the bank. The complaint has been filed with the European Central Bank and other regulatory bodies, highlighting the intensifying friction between the CEO and members of the board. As the world's oldest bank continues to manage internal governance issues, the outcome of this regulatory filing could determine the future trajectory of its executive management.
