MIGA to double Africa guarantees to $6.4 billion yearly
MIGA will more than double annual Africa guarantees to $6.4 billion to attract $23 billion in private capital. The funds support energy and food security needs.
The World Bank's Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) will increase its annual guarantees in Africa to $6.4 billion over the next 42 months. This plan more than doubles current levels to mobilize $23 billion in private capital for food, energy, and debt projects. The expansion signals a shift toward using credit enhancement to de-risk emerging market investments as traditional aid budgets shrink.
### Mobilizing Private Capital for Infrastructure MIGA is scaling up operations after the World Bank Group consolidated its guarantee business under a single unit two years ago. The agency intends to reach a global issuance target of $20 billion annually by 2030. In Africa, the $6.4 billion yearly commitment will focus on energy grids, trade finance, digital connectivity, and supporting local financial institutions.
