India faces a dual employment crisis as the conflict in the Middle East displaces migrant workers and chokes labor-intensive manufacturing exports. The regional instability has forced 1.1 million Indians to return home between late February and late April. This disruption threatens the consumption patterns of an economy where urban youth unemployment already sits at 14%.
### Export Hubs Struggle with Rising Costs In industrial centers like Kanpur, the conflict between Iran and Israel has inflated fuel and logistics expenses. Taj Alam, owner of Kings International, said his leather factory now operates at 50% capacity and has halved its workforce. He noted that the outlook will remain bleak until the Strait of Hormuz stabilizes.
