Medtronic to Buy Scientia Vascular for 550 Million Dollars
Medtronic has agreed to acquire Scientia Vascular for $550 million to expand its stroke care offerings. The deal is expected to close in early fiscal 2027.
Medical device manufacturer Medtronic plc has entered into an agreement to acquire Scientia Vascular, a medical technology firm based in the United States, for a total consideration of $550 million. The acquisition is aimed at expanding the company's specialized product line used in the treatment of strokes. Scientia Vascular, which is headquartered in Salt Lake City and employs roughly 310 people, focuses on the production of guidewires and catheters designed to navigate the complex blood vessels of the brain. Medtronic stated that these products will be seamlessly integrated into its existing neurovascular portfolio, supporting medical procedures for both hemorrhagic and acute ischemic strokes. Linnea Burman, senior vice president and president of Medtronic's neurovascular business, emphasized the strategic value of the deal. > "The deal positions Medtronic with a full suite of products and supports procedures across both hemorrhagic and acute ischemic stroke." The acquisition is projected to close during the first half of fiscal year 2027. Medtronic expects the transaction to have a minimally dilutive impact on its adjusted earnings in 2027, with the deal becoming accretive in the years following. Additionally, the agreement includes potential earn-out and milestone-based payments, though specific financial details regarding these future incentives were not disclosed.
