Malaysia Weighs Buyout of Datasonic
The Malaysian government is considering the acquisition of passport supplier Datasonic Technologies, with its parent company estimating a preliminary value of 7.5 billion ringgit. Discussions remain in early stages with no firm offers yet established.
The Malaysia government is exploring the acquisition of passport and identity card supplier Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd in a preliminary valuation of 7.5 billion ringgit ($1.86 billion), its parent firm said on Friday morning. The move follows discussions held with the finance ministry in July regarding potential state consolidation of critical national identification infrastructure. Datasonic represents the core operating asset for parent company NexG Berhad, meaning any divestment would alter the group's listing status and financial structure.
