Macron faces parliamentary test on central bank pick
Lawmakers will vote on Emmanuel Moulin for central bank governor next week. This nomination tests President Macron's political sway and raises questions about independence.
President Emmanuel Macron nominated Emmanuel Moulin to lead the central bank of France. The decision tests Macron's remaining political influence as he enters the final year of his second term. For investors, the outcome determines the leadership of a key European Central Bank rate-setting member and the regulatory head of French lenders.
### Parliamentary Vote Next Week Lawmakers on the finance committees of both houses will decide Moulin's fate during sessions scheduled for next Wednesday, May 20. Moulin will be approved if nays do not surpass 60% of the combined 121 committee members—72 from the lower house and 49 from the Senate. Because Macron lacks an absolute majority in either chamber, the nomination relies on support from conservative Republicains in the Senate.
