LatAm Markets Gain on Mideast Peace Talks and Elections
Latin American assets rose Friday on hopes for Middle East peace talks and upcoming elections in Peru. Markets also monitored potential de-escalation in Ukraine.
Latin American financial markets experienced a significant upswing on Friday, driven by optimism surrounding potential peace negotiations in the Middle East and critical upcoming elections in the region. Investors are closely monitoring the United States and its diplomatic engagement with Iran, with talks hosted by Pakistan expected to provide a path toward de-escalation.
The broader MSCI index for Latin American stocks surged by 2%, marking its most robust three-week performance since late 2020. Simultaneously, a regional currency gauge reached record highs, benefiting from the potential for a long-term truce in the Middle East. This geopolitical shift comes as hostilities persist between Israel and Lebanon, which have kept energy prices elevated. Both Brent Crude Oil and West Texas Oil have remained near the $100 per barrel threshold due to supply constraints in the Strait of Hormuz.
