L3Harris invests $1.27 billion in Virginia expansion
L3Harris will invest $1.27 billion to expand rocket motor production in Virginia. The project supports defense programs amid rising global demand for arms.
L3HARRIS TECHNOLOGIES INC and Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger have announced a $1.27 billion expansion of the company's Orange County site to bolster solid rocket motor production. This initiative follows a $1 billion commitment from the United States government to stabilize the supply of motors for critical defense systems, including Tomahawk missiles and Patriot interceptors. The investment is structured through a $1 billion convertible preferred stake in the L3Harris Missile Solutions unit, which is expected to become a standalone, public company by the second half of 2026. The expansion includes new facilities to support multiple Department of Defense programs amid rising global demand for military equipment. L3Harris also maintains production sites in Camden, Arkansas, and Huntsville, Alabama. The project comes as the administration proposes renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War, a change requiring congressional approval.
