Kuwait approves $3.3 billion sewage plant contract with China State Construction Engineering Corp

Kuwait's Central Agency for Public Tenders officially approved a direct contract on January 25, 2026, between the Kuwait Ministry of Public Works and China State Construction Engineering Corp for the development of a major wastewater facility. The contract, valued at 999.85 million Kuwaiti dinars, which is equivalent to approximately $3.3 billion, covers the comprehensive design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the North Kabd sewage treatment plant.
Under the terms of the agreement, China State Construction Engineering Corpwill be responsible for the plant's operations for a period of 10 years. The facility is expected to process up to 1 million cubic metres of wastewater per day, significantly boosting the infrastructure capacity of KW
KW. This project comes as the nation seeks to address documented challenges in its water management systems, where wastewater reuse is currently confined to irrigation only due to various quality constraints.
