JPMorgan Chase & Co. has announced a significant expansion of its small-business lending operations in the United States, targeting a substantial increase in its client base and local economic support. The financial giant plans to grow its small-business portfolio from 7 million to 10 million clients through a new program titled the American Dream Initiative, which also focuses on affordable housing, healthcare access, and workforce training.

The bank expects to deploy $80 billion in loans to small businesses over the next 10 years. These funds will be distributed directly or through community development financial institutions and federal small-business programs. Additionally, the bank plans to expand its coaching program to reach 115,000 business owners, offering expertise in areas such as cash flow management, payroll, and employee retirement plans.

Ben Walter, CEO of Chase Business Banking, noted that while the program includes a charitable component, the bulk of the lending will remain commercial and market-based.

The majority of these loans will be commercial, at market rates, so we can grow our business with small and medium companies in a sustainable way.

To facilitate this expansion, the bank will hire 1,000 new small-business credit officers and 150 senior business consultants. These professionals will be deployed across several key metropolitan areas, including Philadelphia, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, with a particular emphasis on the state of Alabama.

Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of the firm, emphasized the importance of expanding economic access through such targeted programs in a formal statement.

The American Dream is alive, but it’s slipping out of reach for too many people - and for future generations.

Alabama is a central focus of the new strategy. The bank already serves prominent clients in the state, including Auburn University, the University of Alabama, and the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Beyond business lending, the firm is financing infrastructure projects like the West Alabama Corridor highway and plans to open 35 new branches across the state by 2030.
