Former German minister Kukies to lead Morgan Stanley Europe
Joerg Kukies will join Morgan Stanley in May to lead its continental European operations. He previously served as a top aide to Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Joerg Kukies, the former finance minister of Germany, is set to join MORGAN STANLEY in a senior leadership role, marking his return to the private sector after years of government service. Kukies, a prominent figure in the financial landscape, will begin his tenure in May, initially operating out of the United Kingdom before transitioning to Frankfurt. In his new capacity, he will serve as the country chief for Germany and Austria, while also heading the bank's continental European operations. Prior to his time in Berlin, Kukies held the position of co-head at GOLDMAN SACHS BDC INC in Germany. He moved into the public sector in 2018, serving as a deputy finance minister and later as a key advisor to Chancellor Olaf Scholz. His appointment comes as major banks from the United States continue to expand their influence and market share across Europe, often outperforming local financial institutions.
