Japan May Wholesale Prices Rise 6.3 Percent Year-on-Year
Japanese wholesale prices rose 6.3 percent in the year to May, surpassing the median market forecast of 5.5 percent. Data from the Bank of Japan shows the corporate goods price index accelerated from a 5.3 percent increase recorded in April.
Japan wholesale prices rose 6.3% year-on-year in May, exceeding the 5.5% median market forecast. The jump follows a 5.3% annual rise in April as corporate costs continue to climb. This acceleration highlights persistent inflationary pressure on Japanese firms and faster-than-expected tightening in the supply chain.
### Wholesale Costs Outpace Market Forecasts The corporate goods price index (CGPI), which tracks the prices companies charge each other for goods and services, grew 0.9% on a month-on-month basis. This monthly increase surpassed the 0.5% gain anticipated by economists. Bank of Japan data released on Wednesday confirmed the index reached 134.5 for the month.
