Japan Regulator Eyes Private Credit for Corporate Growth
Japan's regulator will include private credit in a new strategy to meet rising funding demand. The move supports M&A activity and investment-led growth.
Japan is identifying private credit as a cornerstone of its new financial strategy to meet rising corporate funding needs, according to a senior official. This shift comes as the nation experiences a surge in merger and acquisition (M&A) activity, even as private credit markets in other regions face significant turbulence.
Michinori Haba, the deputy director-general for financial markets at the Financial Services Agency, stated that the domestic market for private credit remains underdeveloped and requires cultivation. Unlike overseas markets currently dealing with heavy redemption hits, the Japanese market is seen as a potential growth area. The trend is being driven by rising inflation, which has prompted domestic firms to begin deploying cash reserves that have been stagnant for long periods.
