Ivory Coast set to reveal cocoa mid-crop prices early amid global market downturn
Ivory Coast plans to announce mid-crop cocoa prices early to address a global market slump. The move aims to align with regional shifts and storage needs.
The Government of Ivory Coast
CI will announce the fixed price that cocoa farmers (mid-crop) will receive for the April–September mid-crop by the end of this month. This decision to move the announcement forward from the usual late-March or early-April schedule comes as the world cocoa futures market experiences a steep fall. Officials are facing pressure to reduce domestic farmer prices following a period where world cocoa futures have plunged more than 70 percent from their peak in late 2024.
The current market environment stands in contrast to the start of the season when the government set the farmer price at approximately $5,000 per ton in October. Since then, world cocoa futures have dropped to trade around $3,100 per ton. This downward trend has already prompted the Ghana
GH government to cut its own farmer prices earlier this month. International cocoa traders are closely watching the situation as the price for the mid-crop remains under discussion.
