Italy will seek additional flexibility in European Union budget rules to offset soaring energy costs, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Wednesday. The country's annual inflation rate jumped to 4.1% in September from 3.2% in August amid rising living costs. Meloni plans to press European authorities during October meetings to factor inflation into permitted deficit calculations.
