Immigration Drives Cincinnati Growth

A new regional report shows international immigration fueled three-quarters of Greater Cincinnati population growth since 2020. However, slow housing permits and rising rents continue to challenge the expanding local economy.

Greater Cincinnati has grown over the last five years thanks to extra 61,000 residents, but there aren't enough places for them to live.

Greater Cincinnati added 47,500 foreign-born residents from 2020 to 2025, accounting for 75% of total population growth. The 15-county metro now totals 2.31 million residents, up 2.7% since 2020. International immigration drove the bulk of regional expansion as domestic migration turned negative.
