Indiana Power Line Project to Save Millions
The Department of Energy announced a major investment to improve electric grid reliability in Indiana. The project aims to reduce congestion costs and save ratepayers millions annually.
The United States Department of Energy launched a $1.9 billion infrastructure funding initiative on Wednesday morning to strengthen electric grid reliability across 26 states. The nationwide program includes a $525 million investment for an Indiana transmission project designed to link two regional power operators. Federal officials estimate the upgrade will generate up to $150 million in annual ratepayer savings.
The federal agency is contributing $175 million to the Indiana project, with private partners supplying an additional $350 million. Jonathan Brightbill, DOE general counsel, announced the funding during a Wednesday morning briefing at Governor Mike Braun's office. The initiative aims to resolve transmission bottlenecks where the Midcontinent Independent System Operator and PJM Interconnection meet.
