Indian rupee finds support from central bank action and a weaker dollar
The rupee is holding steady as RBI intervention and a weaker dollar offset equity outflows. The central bank aims to keep the currency above the 91 level.
The Reserve Bank of India (SY:RESERVE_BANK_OF_INDIA) stepped in aggressively to support the Indian rupee (SY:INDIAN_RUPEE) last week, providing a crucial floor for the currency amid a complex mix of global and domestic pressures. This surprise intervention in India (CO:IN) occurred immediately after a currency rally linked to a recent trade deal between the South Asian nation and the United States (CO:US). The central bank's actions, alongside moves in the U.S. dollar (SY:U.S._DOLLAR) and U.S. Treasuries (SY:U.S._TREASURIES), are directly influencing exchange-rate levels, hedging demand, and investor sentiment for Indian assets.
