Indian Rupee and Bonds Weaken as Oil Prices Rise on Conflict
Indian financial markets face pressure as Middle East tensions drive oil prices higher. The rupee may test 92 per dollar and bond yields are set to rise.
Financial markets in India are bracing for a volatile start to the final month of the fiscal year as escalating conflict in the Middle East drives a surge in Brent Crude Oil prices. Geopolitical tensions spiked over the weekend following strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, an event that has soured global risk appetite and sent investors toward safe-haven assets like the U.S. dollar and gold.
The Indian rupee is expected to remain under pressure after finishing last week just below the 91 per dollar mark. As a major oil importer, the country is highly exposed to supply disruptions and the inflationary impact of rising energy costs. Analysts suggest that the currency could soon test the 92 level if crude prices continue their upward trajectory.
